About the Service

Our Helping Families Connect Program is funded by the federal government (National Indigneous Australians Agency NIAA) and is a community controlled, free of charge, service for all Indigenous families who have school age children at risk of disengaging from school.

Kummara operates south of the Brisbane river; from the Moreton Bay region all the way to the Ipswich region. The Helping Families Connect Program is located in Inala at 59-61 Lorikeet Street, next to the Serviceton South State School.

Families can either self-refer to us or we can take referrals from services like hospitals, schools, health services, Government and non-government agencies. The easiest way to self-refer is to contact the office on (07) 3128 0940.

What we offer

When you work with Kummara you will receive a culturally safe and respectful service. We are aware that every family is unique and that raising children can be stressful at times. Our qualified and empathetic staff are non-judgemental and have an understanding of life's struggles whilst recognising your strengths and abilities.

We have a wide range of programs and services. Projects have been developed to provide for the whole family who can participate in our community programs:

·        Cultural Connect Program (Homework club)

·        Building Resilient Indigenous Kids for School Program (BRIKS program)

·        School Holiday Programs

·        Circle of Security (COS) Parenting Program

·        Parenting under Pressure (PUP) Parenting Program

·        One on one in home support

·        Participation in community e.g. NAIDOC activities

·        Participation in school community activities

We have in depth knowledge of both community and government services in your area, which we will point out to you if we think they can be of help.

Ultimately, you will be in charge of what we work on and how we do this. We in turn will provide you with the support necessary to get you and your family to where you want to be.
