About the Service

Our Family Wellbeing Service is funded by the Queensland government and is a community controlled, free of charge, service for all Indigenous families who have children under the age of 18 years old living in their care.

Kummara operates South of the Brisbane river; from the inner city suburb of West End all the way to the Ipswich region. The Ipswich and South West Family Wellbeing Service is located in Goodna and services the area from Gailes to the Ipswich Region (excluding the Somerset and Lockyer Valley Region).

Families can either self refer to us or we can take referrals from services like hospitals, schools and child safety services. The easiest way to self refer or refer a family is by filling out the below referral form. Please ring us on 3198 3030 if you need assistance filling out the form.

What we offer

When you work with Kummara you will receive a culturally safe and respectful service. We are aware that every family is unique and that raising children can be stressful at times. Our qualified and empathetic staff are non judgemental and have an understanding of life's struggles whilst recognising your strengths and abilities.

We will help you make sense of what is going on when you feel overwhelmed and help you address the goals that are important to you.

We have a wide range of programs and services. You can participate in our community programs like our playgroup, women's group, parents group or Circle of Security Parenting Program. We can also work with you and your family individually, which means we will visit you in your home or somewhere else comfortable and might help you with budgeting, managing your child's behaviour or assist you in working together with government agencies and schools. We have in depth knowledge of both community and government services in your area, which we will point out to you if we think they can be of help.

Ultimately, you will be in charge of what we work on and how we do this. We in turn will provide you with the support and expertise necessary to get you and your family to where you want to be.

Opening Hours

We are open Monday to Friday between 8.30 am and 4.30 pm. We are closed on weekends and public holidays. Limited after hours service on weekdays is available according to your families' needs.
