What is KICS?

KICS stands for Kummara and Infinity Community Solutions (ICS) and together they provide a partnership approach to delivering a whole-of-family support to children and young people with varying support needs, living in the Brisbane Region.

KICS currently runs a Kinship Care Service as well as a Family Support Service.

KICS Family Support Service

This program is funded by the Queensland government and is a free of charge service for families living in Brisbane South (including Archerfield & Sunnybank Hills all the way to Capalaba, Manly, Wynnum West - and everything in between) and Brisbane South West (Inala / Forest Lake and surrounding areas).

KICS Family Support Service can work with any consenting families whose children are living at home, are between the ages 0-18 years (including unborn children) and who find themselves in vulnerable situations, but are not in need of / or at considerable risk of ongoing statutory intervention.

Families can either self refer to us and we can accept referrals from FACC, intervention services like IFS, hospitals, schools and other government, non-government, universal and specialist services.

The easiest way to self-refer is to ring us on 3846 5654. If you are a professional looking to refer family, please email us on KICS_SFS@kummara.org.au to receive a form which will guide you on how to do this.

What we offer

When you work with KICS you will receive a respectful service tailored around your families’ needs. We are aware that every family is unique and that raising children can be stressful at times. Our qualified and empathetic staff are non-judgemental and have an understanding of life's struggles whilst recognising your strengths and abilities.

We will help you make sense of what is going on when you feel overwhelmed and help you address the goals that are important to you.

We have a wide range of programs and services. You can participate in our community programs like our parenting program, playgroup or Family Fun Days. We can also work with you and your family individually, which means we will visit you in your home or somewhere else comfortable and might help you with budgeting, managing your child's behaviour or assist you in working together with government agencies and schools. We have in depth knowledge of both community and government services in your area, which we will point out to you if we think they can be of help.

Ultimately, you will be in charge of what we work on and how we do this. We in turn will provide you with the support and expertise necessary to get you and your family to where you want to be.

Opening Hours

We are open Monday to Friday between 8.30 am and 5 pm. We are closed on weekends and public holidays. Limited after-hours service on weekdays is available according to your families' needs.

KICS Kinship Care Service

KICS Kinship Care Service works with children (0 to 18 years) who require a statutory out of home care placement and primary/respite Kinship Carers. KICS Kinship Support works collaboratively with the whole family including the parents and extended family to secure a stable and enduring kinship care placement while it is required.

Children and young people can be referred to us by the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women or by residential placements.

What we offer

KICS uses the Family Led Decision Making principles to engage family, kin and other identified networks around the child, to identify and secure appropriate primary and respite kindship placements and navigate family challenges within the kindship placement.

KICS provides primary and respite placement assessments and monitoring as well as support and training to carers. We conduct regular home visits, offer after-hours on-call support and provide group and one-on-one training opportunities for kinship carers on relevant topics including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Families, Caring for Jarjums, Understanding Identity & Connection, Self-Care, Understanding the Impact of Trauma and Responsive Play.

Opening Hours

This service is open from 9am to 5pm on weekdays and provides flexible support outside of these hours to suit the needs of the family. The service provides on-call services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
